Sharing a Rewards Credit Card vs. Having Individual Cards

posted by October 1, 2015

sharing milesIt might seem like a good idea to share your rewards credit card with your spouse or other family member. After all, two can spend more quickly than one, thus earning more points more quickly, right? Not always! When you factor in the sign-up bonus, it makes more sense for each family member to get his or her own card. With bonuses of 40,000 to 80,000 points or more, it would take a lot of time and spending to accumulate that many points on one card. However, keep in mind that each card has a minimum spend before you can actually get the bonus points. So if your monthly expenses won’t get you to the minimum spend by yourself, you would definitely want to consider adding an authorized user.

For details on the pros and cons of sharing a card or getting your own, check out this article from The Points Guy.

Advanced Strategies for Earning Rewards Points

posted by May 30, 2014

Advanced Earning StrategiesThere are many well-known ways to earn airline rewards points, like using your credit card at certain restaurants, staying at particular hotels, and shopping at specific online websites, but if you’ve outgrown these basic strategies, it may be time for you to look into more advanced earning methods.

One example of an expert technique offered by The Frugal Travel Guy is to purchase a gift card at a retailer offering a high or bonus amount of reward points and then to use the gift card to buy whatever item you actually want to buy at a different retailer. He explains that instead of just paying for a coffee at Starbucks with his credit card, he would go to Staples and buy a Starbucks gift card with his Ink Bold card before heading over to Starbucks to use the gift card on the coffee. This way, he wound up earning 5 points per dollar instead of the 1 that he would’ve earned had he just paid with his credit card at Starbucks.

If you have the time to develop and execute advanced strategies like this one, then you have the ability to earn many times more reward points than you currently are. If you would like to get a jump start on earning extra by buying reward points or if you have unused points that you’d like to sell, contact us today!
